It is with sadness that I must report the passing of Albert G. Daemen, VE2IJ, on June 27, 2006 at the age of 91.  Belgian by birth Al came to Canada many years ago originally settling in Shawinigan and later Montreal. Licensed in the early 1930s he was active in Amateur Radio as well as the commercial radio business.  Many will remember Al as being active through the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s helping with special event stations at Expo 67 and the Montreal Olympics as well as being the VE2 QSL bureau manager for many years. A life member of the Montreal Amateur Radio Club Al also helped found the Union Metropolitaine des Sans Filistes de Montreal and was recently honoured by Radio Amateurs du Quebec with the establishment of the Prix Albert Daemen. For many years a regular attendee at both MARC and UMS meetings Al will be missed by many friends, acquaintances and fellow radio amateurs.

A gathering will be held on July 8 from 3 PM to 5 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM at the Salon Funeraire Urgél Bourgie, 1255 Beaumont, Town of Mount Royal (514-735-2025). Memorial Donations may be made to the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation.

Our thoughts are with Al's family and friends including Al's nephew André, VE2NL.

Jim.
