  Hi folks,

  Below is some information about this event for which amateur radio assistance has been requested.  It is hoped that his will become an annual event and would be a great way to show folks what amateur radio can do.  Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested in helping.

==========

  The Grande Parade du Canal is planned for May 25, 2002.  This maritime parade will celebrate the re-opening of the Lachine Canal.

  The organizers anticipate the participation of some 150 water craft of various descriptions as well as up to 50,000 spectators.  As one can imagine communications will become an important aspect of the organization of this event.

  Amateur radio is a part of the communications plan for this event which will see a few operators in safety boats but many more on the shores of the canal keeping the various teams of volunteers updated with necessary information.

  The parade itself is expected to start at 11:00 and last until about 16:30 however we can expect the communications network to be phased in from perhaps 8:00 on.

  The parade itself will start at the Atwater basin and move west to Lachine through locks 4 and 5 and ending at Lachine.

  As many as 20 (!) amateur radio operators may be needed for this event chiefly using hand held radios so charge up the batteries.

Anyone willing to assist should contact Jim Hay, VE2VE by e-mail at ve2ve@rac.ca or by telephone at 514-697-7205
