M.A.R.C. News Bulletin - May 2, 2002.

Montreal Amateur Radio Club course Graduates

This is to let you know that Ron Campbell's callsign is VA2RJC, not VE2AIA as reported two weeks ago.  It seems there was mixup at Industry Canada and Ron finally received the callsign he wanted.

Also, Robert Warren, who wrote the exam at the fleamarket, now has the callsign VE2RHW.

As well, Shawn Englehart, VA3STE passed the Advanced Qualification and Steven Faguy, VA2SMF passed the Morse Code test.

Congratulations to all who passed or upgraded their qualifications.

Subject: Grande parade de Canale - Saturday, May 11, 2002.

Hi folks,

May 25 is coming and it looks like we'll need nearly 20 operators to keep things held together.  The parade is on May 25 starting from the Atwater basin at 11:00 and proceeding west to Lachine. We will be the co-ordinating communications and so will be needed when the organizers start setting up.  I'll confirm when we will be starting but it will likely be early.

Apart from the control station there will be two operators in the safety boats and two or three in golf carts with the chief organizer and the person in charge of the first aiders - these operators will likely be driving the carts.  A third may be with a Parks Canada employee.  There will also be two who will start out at Atwater and follow the parade on foot.

The remainder will be paired up with the shuttle vehicles, transport crew and the various volunteer crews to ensure that information gets to where it is needed and everything goes smoothly.  This is a handie-talkie job so charge your batteries.

I will be getting more precise information before long and will pass that along.  In the mean time please let me know if you can assist and I'll add you to the list.  Also please pass the word along to anyone you know who might be interested.

Oh yes, I have just been advised that lunch will be provided to the volunteers and that there should be T-Shirts also.

73 de Jim.

Subject: Blainville Attelage International Driving

The Blainville Attelage International Driving competition is set for June the 7th to the 9th, the cross country course will take place on Saturday the 8th of June, and like last year the event will run from 12h00 (noon) to around 16h00/17h00 (4 or 5 P.M.) with a briefing before the event in the morning.  I ask you to confirm your attendance to this event as we are in the planning stages, like last year we will work with the Laval-Laurentide Hams as they gave us a big hand in making this event very successful.

Please confirm your participation, we need as many hams as we can get, last year we had 27 hams (minimum required) and this year should be even better.  The M.A.R.C club is attempting to set up a special portable repeater with the help of my generous $$ contribution and lots of time on the part of Jim, Vern and others, so if we have 30 plus hams coming, it's really going to be a success on all fronts.

If you have any of your friends who would like to get on the ham-wagon,  this is the best event to do it in.
