Industry Canada has just informed RAC that a notice will be published in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on Saturday, September 11, 1999 giving holders of the Amateur Radio Operator's Certificate with Basic Qualification and Morse (5 words per minute) permission to operate their stations in the 10 metre band. The notice will announce modification to Circular RIC-2 and that the authorization will be effective September 11. Radio Amateurs with Basic Qualification and 5 wpm morse should consult the notice on the Industry Canada web site at:

http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/sf01725e.html

before using their station on 10 metres.

This agreement is the culmination of an RAC initiative following requests made by radioamateurs across Canada to the Directors of RAC. The agreement comes following direct discussions between RAC and IC at the CARAB meetings and public consultations with IC. 56 responses recieved from the public supported the initiative in a substantial way.

RAC and RAQI appreciate the efforts of Industry Canada in giving this extension of privileges. RAC also thanks all those individuals, clubs and organisations contributing to this effort.
